Johannesburg residents will have some relief with their properties following the introduction of the new General Valuation Roll.
Last week Tuesday, MMC for Finance Funzela Ngobeni announced that no credit control action would be taken against accounts until objections were finalised.
This comes after the 2018 General Valuation Roll adjusted the values of some residents’ properties, which caused concern amongst residents. Elaborating on the matter, MMC Ngobeni said the decision to withhold action only applies to accounts that are in good standing as at 30 June 2018. “If any outstanding money is owed to the City at the said date, we will apply credit control actions for any other service charges that are in arrears.”
While this may allay concerns of residents who raised objections, MMC Ngobeni explained that objectors must continue to pay according to the old value as they would still be held liable should the objections return unchanged.
