“It is an honour to be able to give the elderly their title deeds, and through it a dignity that they had been deprived of for a long time. They will now sleep with less anxiety knowing that they are the rightful owners of their houses," said MMC van Wyk.
The MMC also pleaded with the residents of Lufhereng to keep their title deeds safe and encouraged them to write wills so that there are less problems experienced when the elderly pass on.
The MMC promised the residents of Joburg that in the next financial year, the Department had set a target of issuing 3 500 title deeds, and it was a target they put all resources towards meeting.
“The days of people waiting decades to receive title deeds are over. I will hand out title deeds throughout the City," he concluded.
To date, the multi-party government has issued 5000 title deeds to various residents of the City of Johannesburg.
