A woman from northern Joburg has beaten scores of hopefuls to clinch the 947 Week of the Wedding Dress competition.
As part of the competition prize, Minda Strydom from Northcliff walked away with a fully-paid holiday to Mauritius worth R100 000, including flights, airport transfers and seven nights at the four-star all-inclusive Tasamassa Resort located on the beach.
The 947 Week of the Wedding Dress gave Joburgers an opportunity to dust off their wedding dresses and put them on again. Only this time, not to walk down the aisle or say their vows but to stand a chance to win an all-expenses-paid trip to the island of Mauritius.
Strydom, who came tops out of twenty other hopefuls, was crowned the overall winner at a grand finale of that prestigious radio station’s annual competition on Thursday, 18 April.
The Wedding Dress competition kicked off on Friday, 5 April and entails Joburgers, male and female, wearing a wedding dress to undertake a normal routine like going to work, gym, school or running errands, or something less mundane like going boxing as last year’s winner, Lefase Rankoe did.
The competition is run by Primedia Broadcaster, 947, through its breakfast show, the 947 Breakfast Club.
All what entrants must do is take pictures or videos of their exploits and post them on social media using the #947Weddingdress. The radio station’s judges were assisted to pick a winner by Miss South Africa, Tamaryn Green.
Strydom won the hearts of Joburgers when she went scuba diving in her wedding dress. “It was a last-minute decision. I [just] took the dress and [went] swimming,” she said.
“I cannot wait to go to Mauritius, it was on my bucket list for many years. My husband and I have been postponing the trip for so long, winning this competition is like a gift from God,” she explained.
The 947 Breakfast Club host Anele Mdoda said all contestants were exceptionally creative when entering the competition. “But there had to be one winner and the scuba bride was the lucky one.”
