Residents of Cosmo City will no longer have to travel to the Randburg or Roodepoort city centre to pay their municipal accounts, the City has opened a Customer Service Centre right next to their doorstep.
Addressing residents at the opening ceremony in Cosmo City on Monday, 26 August, MMC for Finance Funzela Ngobeni urged residents to make use of the facility and take good care of it.
The newly opened centre will operate from Monday to Friday, between 7:30am and 4:30pm. It has a staff complement of seven Customer Relations Agents (CRA) and an operational manager. MMC Ngobeni said four of the CRAs stay in Cosmo city and they will now work closer to where they live.
The centre will assist customers with their billing queries, to pay their municipal accounts and access statements and buy prepaid water tokens. It will also assist qualifying customers to register for the expanded social package.
Ngobeni told the community that the centre doesn't belong to him, the ward councillor, or City officials, but to local residents.
He said the City had opened it in its quest to bring services closer to the people. “This initiative is part of visible service delivery. The Centre will assist residents to access City services at their doorstep and no longer travel long distances to pay or query their accounts,” he said.
According to Leah Knott, the MMC for Economic Development, who is also responsible for Region C, the centre in Cosmo City will also have a job seekers database to assist residents to register so that they can be considered for job opportunities in the City as well as the private sector.
