​The three firefighters who died tragically in a blaze that razed the Bank of Lisbon building last September have posthumously received the EMS Medal of Valour for resounding bravery in the line of duty.

The families of Khathutshelo Muedi, Mduduzi Ndlovu, and Simphiwe Moropane, the brave firefighters who died in the line of duty joined scores of firefighters bestowed with the EMS Bravery Award by the Executive Mayor, Councillor Herman Mashaba, MMC of Public Safety, Michael Sun and Acting EMS Fire Chief, Arthur Mqwa.

The firefighters were honoured during a special ceremony at the Florida Fire Station on Monday, 28 January. The awards are designed to recognise the precarious nature of the work of firefighters and to honour their heroic deeds.

The raging inferno that engulfed the Bank of Lisbon Building on Wednesday, 5 September 2018 in the Johannesburg CBD claimed the lives of the three firefighters and injured eight of their colleagues.
