Olympic medalist Kgotso “Crocodile” Mokoena took time off his busy schedule to lead a fat-burning aerobic session at Roosevelt Park Recreation Centre in the City of Joburg’s Region B.
The South African long jump gold specialist and world’s silver medalist at the 2008 Olympic Games, Mokoena shared his highs and lows after a heart-pumping session on Saturday, 16 February 2019.

“Through my long jump career journey, I had exciting successes and harsh downhill. At times things just didn’t go the way I expected, but I had to focus on achieving my dreams, which came true when I qualified for the Olympic Games,” said a 32-year-old Mokoena.
Ward Councillor David Hensman, who delivered the key message of the day, emphasised the importance of living a healthy lifestyle. Mme Motshabi from Kathrada Park in Newclare, who was invited through the Bosmont Recreation Centre programme, said: “It is an important day for me. It helps me to relax and reduce stress. I learnt a lot regarding the importance of drinking and saving water. I am happy and I like to be invited more to these kind of activities.”
The day saw many people being exposed to various activities such as yoga, fun relays, dance fitness and swimming.
“I’d like to thank the Sport and Recreation directorate and officials from the Roosevelt Park Recreation Centre who offered lessons, staff from the City of Johannesburg Health Department and Colgate SA for screenings conducted; and the City of Johannesburg Social Department (Food Resilience Unit) for brightening the event with their presence,” said Vanessa Montanus, the City’s Assistant Director of Sport and Recreation.
