Motorists will now have access in the rain and traffic will be minimised thanks to the reconstruction of the R49 million Klipspruit West bridge between wards 11 and 17.
The bridge underwent reconstruction from January 2018 and was officially opened by the Executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg Cllr Herman Mashaba, who addressed local residents.

“As a government, it’s our responsibility to ensure that we all agree on one thing and that is service delivery despite all our disagreements. We are committed to ensuring that our residents are always taken care of,” said Mayor Mashaba.
The project entailed the construction of 2km of roads into the township, side drains, gabions, stone pitching, pedestrian walkways to accommodate pedestrian traffic and concreted kerbs along Bridge and Fuschia roads.
A total of 68 employment opportunities were created during this project for community members, including 14 local SMMEs.
As with many projects this one also incurred some delays, where there has been incidents of theft but also nature played a role with the rain season halting the project between January and February of 2019.
“This is a world-class bridge and as part of the project we spent R49 million. No matter how bad the rain is this year, there will be no flooding,” said Siyabonga Genu, Head of Infrastructure Development at the JRA.
