This past Thursday, 28 March 2019, the Executive Mayor of Johannesburg, Cllr Herman Mashaba visited the beginning of a new development of 701 residential sites in Zandspruit – the first for a housing project of this magnitude.
The project, as set out over three phases, is expected to yield up to 2 400 walk-up units upon full completion.
As part of the visit, the MMC for Housing within the City of Joburg, Cllr Meshack van Wyk, councillors within the area, and the community, got the opportunity to install the first pegs which will map out the first phase of the development.
This is after Mashaba visited the township of Zandspruit and met with some of the community leaders, to discuss the electrification and development of their township after decades that left the community with poor access to quality of services.
Subsequent to this, Council passed a resolution to allow for the development of Zandspruit as planned by the City’s Housing Department whilst fast-tracking efforts to work with Eskom to providing electricity to the area.
The planned development will comprise of mixed income opportunities catering for different markets throughout Extensions 83, 84 and 85.
