A senior law enforcement officer in the Department of Development Planning has scooped a double prize at the annual national Administrative Excellence Awards, hosted by non-profit organisation, the Association for Office Professionals of South Africa (OPSA).

Roweena Chetty took home the accolade for National Administrative Excellence and was named the National Administrative Excellence Ambassador for OPSA.

OPSA’s administrative excellence awards recognise outstanding service delivery by individuals who provide administrative support to an individual or team in an organisation or department. The NPO supports admin and personal assistants, receptionists and secretaries.

Roweena, who works in the Land-Use Development Management Directorate which enforces bylaws, scooped the award for being innovative and resourceful in the workplace, an active contributor to the success of her team and for always delivering administrative excellence.

She’s been recognised for delivering exceptional customer experience, coming up with suggestions for efficient and effective processes in the workplace and for serving customers with professionalism, enthusiasm, and care.

She won the double awards in a category that required participants to demonstrate a commitment to Batho Pele principles through the consistent implementation of these in their work. She had been nominated by a member of the public under the public sector category.

Roweena says she is motivated by the idiom that says people should become the change they envisage.

“I have a burning passion to make a difference in my community and in the City. I firmly believe that excellent service promotes growth and allows the City to have clients who are not only happy with my service but keep coming back,” she explains.

Last year, Roweena walked home with an OPSA ‘Exemplary Citizen Service Delivery’ award and is a recipient of the City’s Service with Pride Award.
