A City Power employee stationed at the Reuven headquarters has tested positive for Covid-19.
The employee who works at the power utility’s main warehouse near Booysens is currently resting at home in self-isolation, while the City works with the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) to improve contact tracing.
The portfolio head of Environment and Infrastructure Services, Councillor Mpho Moerane has notified Gauteng Premier David Makhura and the national Health Department of the case.
All co-workers who came in direct contact with the infected employee have been asked to stay at home for the next 14 days.
“It is absolutely critical that we continue to comply with social distancing guidelines, intensive hand hygiene and use correct protective personal equipment to safeguard our lives and those of others,” says MMC Moerane.
He’s urged all City employees and residents of Joburg to familiarise themselves with symptoms associated with Covid-19, which include signs of a fever, a dry cough, shortness of breath, fatigue or a sore throat.
City Power’s Reuven warehouse has been closed for decontamination and will re-open in 72 hours.
Cllr Moerane says further contingency measures have been put in place as part of the City's business continuity plan to ensure materials are dispatched from other City Power depots.
The City has availed two clinics in each of its seven regions to screen patients for Covid-19 symptoms. Telephone the municipal Covid-19 hotline on 010 224 0932 for more information.
