Joburg Tourism is inviting residents to soak up the culture and get acquainted with local scenic landscapes and picturesque tourist attractions while discovering the City’s celebrated historical heritage and lifestyle this August, as the country commemorates Women’s month.
From botanical gardens, parks and nature reserves to walking tours and cultural experiences, adventurous outdoor activities, markets, studios, museums and galleries – Joburg has vast tourism allures to tempt anyone looking to venture out domestically to learn about the diversity of South Africa’s economic hub.
Apart from sporting activities such as golf, canoeing and kayaking, why not take a stroll, cycle or jog through one of the City’s gorgeous botanical gardens or parks, which are now open to the public for exercising purposes between 6am and 6pm.
Cllr Lloyd Phillips, the MMC for Economic Development says domestic travel is the backbone of a sustainable and robust tourism industry and Joburg Tourism is strategically revealing its offerings in the run up to September, which coincides with a variety of heritage and tourism month activities.
“As a City with so much heritage and an illustrious historical legacy surrounding empowerment, Joburg prides itself on the museums, sites and attractions which memorialise women’s strength,” says Cllr Phillips.
Joburg Tourism’s Destination Marketing Manager, Lumka Dlomo says virtual experiences notwithstanding, there’s something to look forward to trying out in the flesh in Joburg during lockdown level 3.
“In line with Joburg Tourism’s latest destination marketing campaign tagline, the City is ready to welcome visitors and residents to explore our “City Reimagined” to experience its renowned and familiar sights, sounds, tours, attractions and warm people,” says Dlomo.
Enjoy dining out at some of Joburg’s vibey restaurants, which are open to patrons, while adhering to strict safety protocols. In addition to fine dining, Fairlawns Boutique Hotel is offering luxury escape packages to enjoy after the lockdown, including Spa treatments, delicious meals in the award-winning Amuse-Bouche and much more.
Visit their website to choose the package that suits your needs or contact the reservations team at reservations@fairlawns.co.za.
Craving something different, try out the novel roadhouse dining and movie experience at Pineslopes shopping centre or book a hiking spot (fomk@mk.org.za) at Melville Koppies.
“Enjoy the City’s warmth and hospitality and join the conversation on our Twitter page @visitjoburg and on Facebook. Discover why those who live in Joburg love it – and those who visit our mighty City never forget it,” Dlomo enthuses.
