The City has added another arsenal in its fight against the coronavirus by launching a minibus that will conduct weekly Covid-19 and Civic education programmes among residents in informal settlements who don’t have access to the Internet.
Council Speaker, Cllr Nonceba Molwele says the Government of Local Unity needs to reach as many communities as possible to empower and educate residents of Johannesburg.
“I have identified the need to conduct loud hailing based on my assessment and the interaction with various stakeholders around the issue of community outreach to influence behavioural change on Covid-19 whilst adhering to the regulations,” says Cllr Molwele.
The loud-hailing vehicle will expand civic education across the City with the focus on sharing Covid-19 safety messages, especially in densely populated areas.
This programme is supported by the departments of Health and Social Development and Public Safety.
