A second City employee in the Transport Department is recovering at home after testing positive for Covid-19 this week.

The employee is stationed at the Inner City's Chancellor House East Rea Vaya station, and had a test conducted on Wednesday, 17 June 2020.

Transport MMC Nonhlanhla Makhuba says the employee is currently self-isolating.

“I wish her a speedy recovery," says Makhuba.

The MMC appreciates the employee's bravery and urgent response as she voluntarily went for testing on Monday, 15 June after work when she began experiencing symptoms of Covid-19.

“The employee was in direct contact with a cashier at the station ticket booth on Monday, 15 June and the cashier has since been advised to self-isolate and go for testing within eight (8) consecutive days," Makhuba explains.

The MMC is encouraged by the use of cloth masks and sanitizers by all Rea Vaya station staff, as this has been signalled to control the spread of the Coronavirus.

“All 48 Rea Vaya stations were disinfected on Sunday, 14 June. Some stations from Parktown through Milpark and Auckland Park to Thokoza Park were disinfected for the second time on Wednesday, 17 June," she says.

She's applauded scientology volunteer, Ministry Group, which assisted with disinfecting Rea Vaya stations.

“The regular washing of hands with soap and sanitizers as well as social distancing will help reduce the spread of the Coronavirus," says Makhuba
