Johannesburg Water has reported a second positive case at the Klipspruit Depot in Soweto. The official is one of the direct contacts with the first positive case and had been on self-quarantine.

Both officials and all their direct contacts are in quarantine and further testing is being conducted to ensure the City manages the cases.

The depot has been shut down until all the results of the direct contact are received in three days, upon which the City will decide on when to reopen it.

“We are in touch with all the affected employees to enquire about their wellbeing and that of their families,” said Mpho Moerane, the MMC for Environment and Infrastructure Services.

Langlaagte, Ennerdale and Hamburg depot teams are continuing to share the responsibility of all water and sewer problems in the Klipspruit area to ensure service delivery continues as normal, said Moerane.

The MMC added that the management of Joburg Water was concerned about the growing number of positive cases in the City and urged all staff to follow Covid-19 protocols, including the consistent wearing of masks and respecting social distancing.
