A Rea Vaya Roving Officer is isolating at home after testing positive for Covid-19 on Saturday, 13 June 2020.
The MMC for Transport, Nonhlanhla Makhuba has wished the municipal employee a speedy recovery and good health.
As a Roving Officer, the employee was in contact with a number of his colleagues at selected Rea Vaya stations and at the City's Transport Department's Headquarters on number 75 Helen Joseph Street in Marshalltown.
“As a precautionary measure, all 25 cashiers who were in contact with the employee will be required to self-isolate and be tested on Thursday, 18 June 2020 at any of the City's Covid-19 centres in Soweto and the Joburg CBD," explains Makhuba.
All Rea Vaya stations have been disinfected and are operational. The Transport Building (Old Mutual) was closed for disinfecting on Monday, 15 June 2020 and reopened on Wednesday, 17 June 2020.
“I encourage everyone to continue to wear masks when in public, keep social distancing in buses and stations and sanitise at designated points," Makhuba emphasis.
Screening and testing for Covid-19 is encouraged as it will provide information on health status for City employees, she says.
