Joburg Water has dispatched a team of technicians to repair a burst 900mm pipe which has interrupted supply in Ivory Park, Kaalfontein and Ebony Park in Midrand, north of Johannesburg.

Isaac Dhludhlu, the entity’s spokesperson says 10 roaming and nine stationary water tankers have been dispatched to affected areas to assist with supply while technicians work on fixing the problem.

“There’s a structure on top of the water pipe that burst, so we first had to demolish it before we could resume repairs. We are working around the clock to ensure water is restored,” Dhludhlu explains.

He adds that the entity is planning further water interruptions in the Roodepoort CBD and other suburbs on the Westrand later in the week from 8am until 10pm to allow technicians ample time to tie-in a new pipeline to the existing main one.

Meanwhile, the City is resolving billing errors that have occurred since the lockdown began. The municipality had requested residents to submit pictures of their water meter reading, but this resulted in higher than normal monthly utility charges.

Residents who experienced billing errors are urged to pay their usual monthly consumption rate and no interest will charged on affected accounts. Municipal customers are encouraged to subscribe to the Joburg Water SMS notification service for alerts on planned or unplanned service interruptions.
