​The Joburg Development Agency (JDA), the City of Johannesburg’s infrastructure development entity, will commence construction activities at the start of Level 3 on Monday, June 1 2020.

This follows President Cyril Ramaphosa’s announcement that the lockdown alert level for will be lowered to Level 3 with effect from June 1, 2020. Alert Level 3 lockdown allows for more sectors to operate, including the construction sector. 
​The JDA plays a critical role in the area-based development/s as part of essential municipal services via the implementation of strategic capital works projects for the City of Johannesburg and its entities. 

“It is therefore important that we resume the delivery of these key projects that are critical for improving the quality of life of the residents of Johannesburg,” said Anthony Ngcezula, the JDA’s Chief Executive Officer. 

“Our contractors will co​ntinue with labour and SMME recruitment where required, and have put measures in place to ensure a safe working environment and the observation of the correct social distancing measures as well as provision of the correct personal equipment in line with the Covid-19 alert Level 3 regulations. 

“The JDA will not compromise human lives, hence compliance to regulations on health and safety are non-negotiable to mitigate to effects of Covid-19,” Ngcezula concluded.
