Catch one of the most exciting new opera voices, Pumeza Matshikiza, at the Roodepoort Theatre, Johannesburg on 2 November 2021.
Matshikiza is an exclusive Decca Classics recording artist, and has released two albums featuring arias and traditional and popular African songs with a selection of operatic arias and songs from her current repertoire.
This South African opera star will present a special concert and she’ll be accompanied by Paul Ferreira on the piano. The performance is set to start at 19:30 sharp and tickets will be sold at R180 per person or R340 for two. Patrons are encouraged to book seats online to avoid disappointment as seating is limited.
This concert will be an excellent treat for all music lovers who’ve been deprived of live music because of the Coronavirus pandemic. It’s an opportunity to listen to top drawer talent singing a stunning selection of opera arias and traditional South African songs. Matshikiza made her debut as Fox in Janacek’s The Cunning Little Vixen at the English National Opera.
She has appeared at the English National Opera as Moira in the world premiere of The Handmaid’s tale, written by Poul Ruders. The soprano could also be heard in a gala concert alongside Rolando Villazón at the Sopot Classic Festival and in a solo recital for West Wicklow Festival Ireland, broadcasted at DG Stage.
Scheduled concerts at LSSO Summer Festival, Pažaislis Festival in 20/21 and the tour with Boston Philharmonic Orchestra in 19/20 were unfortunately cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
