Joburg Property Company (JPC) has been recognised as one of South Africa's Top Gender-Empowered Companies by Topco Media, in partnership with Standard Bank.
Acting CEO Musah Makhunga welcomed the honour, saying it reflects the company's ongoing commitment to gender transformation in the workplace. “We are proud to be recognised as a top gender-empowered organisation. This is evident in our employment equity efforts, where we intentionally create opportunities for women, especially in leadership and technical roles traditionally dominated by men."
The Top Gender Empowered Companies campaign is endorsed by the Commission for Gender Equality, UN Women, and Standard Bank Top Women. It recognises organisations that prioritise gender empowerment as part of their core strategies across the public and private sectors.
At the official handover in Braampark, Topco Media's Charlton Mouton praised JPC's work: “I'm here to hand over the certificate to the CEO and certify JPC as a top gender-empowered company."
Mouton added that the selection process involves detailed research into management structures, gender-related policies, and empowerment programmes. “The criteria, developed with the University of Cape Town, are rigorous, and JPC has met them," he said.
Makhunga noted that the company's succession planning focuses strongly on young women: “We have implemented training programmes to build a pipeline of female talent from entry level to executive management. These include property-related courses through UJ and Wits, which have helped equip our female staff with essential technical skills."
