​The City's Academy of Chartered Accountants (ACA) is gearing up to showcase its elite training programme to aspiring accountants at a series of upcoming career fairs at various Universities and Institutions.​

The event will take place at the Institute of Accounting Sciences (IAS) on 14 April 2026 in Alberton and at the University of South Africa on 23 April 2026 in Pretoria. The ACA invites students attending these institutions to visit its exhibition stand to learn more about the City's flagship training programme, which has yielded 10 Chartered Accountants (CAs).

The ACA training programme accredited by the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) is spearheaded by Adv Mlandu Kona, Group Head of Group Governance. It aims to foster youth development and enhance financial skills in Public sector. Participants benefit from structured rotations across the City's departments, mentorship from experienced professionals, and hands-on exposure to internal auditing, budgeting, governance processes, financial management and accounting.

According to Kwena Mokgokong, Director of the ACA Training Office, the career fairs present an important platform for engagement with future accounting professionals.

“The ACA training programme offers meaningful exposure to real work environments and the diverse entities within the City," Mokgokong said.

Through the academy's participation in these events, The aim is to attract high-potential candidates to develop the next generation of accounting professionals within public sector

“Beyond technical training, we aim to open doors for students by exposing them to opportunities for growth, mentorship and long-term career development. The programme has been carefully benchmarked against industry standards and offers attractive, competitive packages that position our trainees for success."

The career fairs will also serve to raise awareness of the programme, which has steadily grown in scope and impact. ACA has strengthened its curriculum to provide a more rounded professional experience, including leadership development sessions and workshops.

Samantha Govender, Assistant Director – Recruitment and Performance of the ACA Training Programme, emphasised the importance of direct engagement. “These platforms allow students to interact with the City's qualified professionals at different managerial levels and gain first-hand insight into financial management, accounting, internal auditing, governance and the public sector environment," she said. “It's an opportunity for them to ask questions, understand the career path, and see how their skills can contribute to public service."

Students interested in a career in chartered accountancy are encouraged not to miss this opportunity to explore the City's ACA programme.
