On Tuesday, 20 October, MMC for Community Development, Cllr Thapelo Amad, welcomed David Tlale to the Joburg City Library. Joburg City Library has endured numerous challenges and remains standing after 90 years. The library is home to more than a million books and symbolises Joburg's rich heritage. Located in the heart of the Johannesburg CBD, the newly renovated Joburg City Library hosted David Tlale in a glitzy, stylish affair.

It is fitting that one of Joburg's favourite sons, David Tlale, chose the Joburg City Library to showcase his bold new collection called Restoration. “I was born and bred in Johannesburg; it's a city where dreams are made," said Tlale
Intertwined between book collections, models used the library as their runway. David Tlale brought African heritage to life through breathtaking textiles, bold silhouettes, and contemporary design that celebrated South Africa's rich cultural identity.
Unconventional events, such as fashion shows in the city library, help keep the library relevant and introduce it to new audiences. World-class events in the Johannesburg inner city significantly contribute to improving the public's perception of the area. The inner city has long suffered from decay; the City of Johannesburg is working to rejuvenate the area.
“The city is very proud to host David Tlale. Entrepreneurs like him play a big role in employing the youth and must be supported," said Cllr Amad.
David Tlale also owns a fashion design store in the heart of the Joburg CBD, where he trains and employs young up-and-coming fashion designers.
