The Joburg Market attended NAMPO Harvest Day, one of the largest agricultural exhibitions in the southern hemisphere. Held annually in Bothaville in the Free State, the prestigious agricultural showcase is hosted by Grain SA and attracts thousands of producers, agribusinesses, stakeholders, and exhibitors from across the country and beyond.

The visit formed part of Joburg Market's ongoing efforts to explore strategic partnerships, strengthen industry relations, and gain insights into future exhibition opportunities within the agricultural sector.

The NAMPO Harvest Day was launched in 1967 at Donkerhoek Farm near Bloemfontein, where it attracted 200 producers. A permanent venue, now known as NAMPO Park, was established outside Bothaville in 1974. Today, the exhibition is recognised as one of the leading agricultural platforms for displaying the latest innovations, technologies, and developments within the farming sector.

According to Farmer's Weekly, the 2026 Nampo event featured more than 910 exhibitors and over 4 000 products across the exhibition grounds. This edition provided producers and agricultural stakeholders with the opportunity to experience the latest farming technologies first-hand while engaging with experts through informative discussions, demonstrations, and networking sessions.

For Joburg Market, attending the event highlighted the importance of positioning national fresh produce markets within major agricultural platforms. Despite the scale and influence of NAMPO Harvest Day, there remains limited representation from national fresh produce markets at the exhibition.

Joburg Market's Divisional Manager: Programme Management, Mr. Cedric Nephawe highlighted the significance of fresh produce markets being present at the event.

“NAMPO presents an important opportunity for fresh produce markets to engage directly with farmers, agribusinesses, and industry stakeholders. Platforms such as these create space for collaboration, knowledge sharing, and strengthening the agricultural value chain. It is important for fresh produce markets to have a presence where the future of agriculture is being showcased," he said.
