The City of Johannesburg has strengthened confidence in its financial position after successfully settling its listed municipal bond on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange. The settlement included the full capital repayment of R1.44 billion and interest of R82.476 million, bringing the total payout to over R1.52 billion.
The bond was redeemed in full on 22 June 2026, in line with its maturity date, reflecting the City's ability to manage cash flow and honour debt obligations despite a constrained fiscal environment.
The Member of the Mayoral Committee for Finance and Acting Executive Mayor, Cllr Loyiso Masuku, said the repayment signals steady progress in the City's financial recovery.
“This demonstrates that Johannesburg is turning the corner. The reforms we have introduced are beginning to yield results and show strong discipline in debt servicing."
The redemption also marks the conclusion of the City's R30 billion Domestic Medium-Term Note Programme, with no listed debt now outstanding.
