The Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA), on behalf of the City of Johannesburg, advises residents, pedestrians and road users that JB Marks Road between Extension 1 and Extension 6 in Diepsloot will be temporarily closed from 19 to 30 October 2026 as part of the Diepsloot Public Environment Upgrade (PEU) project. The closure is necessary to allow the appointed contractor to undertake final preparatory works ahead of asphalt surfacing, paving the way for the road to reopen to traffic. The JDA anticipates opening JB Marks Road to the public on 1 November 2026, subject to the successful completion of the works.
The temporary closure will affect residents and road users in wards 95 and 113. To minimise disruption, road users are advised to use the following alternative routes:
- From Diepsloot Mall to Diepsloot South Clinic: Use 1st Avenue, Plum Street and Ingonyama Street.
- From Ingonyama Street, Ubuntu Drive or Gateside Avenue: Access Ndimatsheloni Street as an alternative route.
For their own safety, residents, pedestrians and motorists are requested to refrain from entering or using the closed road. The public is also urged not to remove, tamper with or bypass barricades, signage or other access-restriction measures installed at the site.

The JDA apologises for the temporary inconvenience and disruption caused by these necessary construction activities. The closure is an important step towards completing the upgrade and providing residents with a safer, more accessible, and usable road and culvert bridge for walking and commuting. Should there be any changes to the construction schedule or reopening date, the JDA will communicate these to the affected communities accordingly.
