On Wednesday, 10 July 2019, the Executive Mayor of the City of Joburg, Herman Mashaba and the MMC for Transport, Cllr Nonhlanhla Makhuba will visit the M1 Double Decker Bridge to assess progress of the rehabilitation project by the Joburg Roads Agency (JRA).
After issues of constant flooding due to inadequate storm-water infrastructure as well as vandalised bridge parapet rails, the JRA undertook to rehabilitate the double decker bridge section.
The rehabilitation consisted of replacement of the parapets rails with concrete parapets, additional drainage pipes installation and long term durability treatment of the concrete works.
The oversight visit will be alongside the Joburg Roads Agency.
