Metrobus regrets to inform all its commuters that due to industrial action by the Democratic Municipal & Allied Workers Union of South Africa (DEMAWUSA), services were disrupted this morning. The Union is demanding salary progression for experienced employees and office space allocation in all three Metrobus depots.
DEMAWUSA is a minority union at Metrobus with limited administrative rights only; however the impact of this industrial action is at the detriment of numerous commuters in the Johannesburg region, who depends on public transportation to get to work and schools.
Metrobus management is currently pursuing all avenues available to ensure that the industrial action comes to an end without further delay. To this effect, Metrobus management and affected employees will be meeting tomorrow, 17 September 2019, at 9am to try and reach a resolution, so that services to our residents can resume as soon as possible.
Metrobus regrets the intimidation of bus operators who are willing to continue serving the commuters. Such intimidation resulted in the hijacking of a bus and assault of a driver; however the bus was recovered at Gandhi square.
Management is currently putting arrangements in place for the resumption of normal services.
Metrobus wishes to apologize to all commuters for the inconvenience caused and to assure all that we will not spare any effort in ensuring that normal bus operations resume as soon as possible.
