On Tuesday, 20 October 2020, MMC for Economic Development, Cllr Lloyd Phillips, continued his regional tour to Region A in Ivory Park, Ward 78 and 79, with the main objective of identifying and addressing long-overdue existing service delivery matters.
Cllr Phillips engaged in a full-bodied discussion with the representatives from the relevant Departments, Entities and Stakeholders within the City. These included the Department of Social Development, Department of Housing, Joburg Water, Sports and Recreation, City Parks, the Joburg Property Company (JPC), the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA), Pikitup and JMPD.
The re-occurring and persistent challenges faced in the two wards were presented by the relevant representatives and a way forward was discussed together with possible solutions, with the assistance of Cllr Phillips. The excursion confirmed that it is imperative that all stakeholders work together to mitigate social ills to improve the living and working conditions of the citizens of Region A.
The service delivery concerns included those of illegal land invasions, unhygienic living conditions, constant sewer blockages, illegal dumping of waste on road reserves, informal trader stalls used for accommodation and the vandalism of the Ivory Park Stadium.
“Taking into account the intricate and vast challenges we are faced with in Region A, I am confident that with the capable team behind me, we will do our very best to deliver on the services and improve the quality of the lives of the people by creating local economic opportunities in the community,” said Cllr Phillips.
