CoJ Moral Regeneration Movement Statement on Teenage pregnancy

We have learnt with concern the statement by Gauteng Health Department of more than 23 000 teenage pregnancies between March 2020 and April 2021.

The figure was revealed by the Provincial Health MEC, Madoda Sambatha, revealing that 2976 girls between the ages of 10 and 19 years chose to terminate their pregnancy.

This is a serious issue which is the cause of school dropout and has serious effects on the health and future of the young girls. The trauma of pregnancy termination and the health issues

involved remain sad and unfortunate,

The CoJ Moral Regeneration Movement (MRM) calls for practical engagement between youth/students, teachers, SGBS and parents within the City of Johannesburg on the matter. This is a

product of breakdown of family values that cause moral degeneration in our Society.
