The new City of Johannesburg Executive Mayor, Councillor Jolidee Matongo and his leadership team on Friday convened their first Mayoral Committee Meeting in preparation to resume the municipality’s Accelerated Service Delivery Programme.
The Programme was launched in April by the late Mayor Geoff Makhubo in a bid to accelerate the implementation of the Government of Local Unity’s priorities of service delivery across the City.
The priorities include, among others, the tarring of roads, fixing of potholes, repairs of broken streetlights, grass cutting, waste management, as well as law enforcement, particularly against vandalism of the City’s infrastructure and illegal connections.
Speaking after the Mayoral Committee Meeting, Mayor Matongo said the meeting sat to receive reports on the status of service delivery for the current financial year to be able to continue with the leadership’s oversight function to ensure progress.
“Now that we have been upraised by the City’s departmental directors and entities, we are ready to go out to the streets next week to ensure that service delivery is underway,” Mayor Matongo said.
