As we mourn the passing of the Executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg Cllr Geoffrey Molantoa Makhubo, we note with concern acts of lawlessness in various parts of our City.
City of Johannesburg Speaker of Council Cllr Nonceba Molwele strongly condemns the acts of violence, destruction of property and infrastructure in the City. Speaker calls for calm among the residents of Johannesburg.
“I want to commend the law enforcement agencies both the South African Police Services (SAPS) and the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) for their efforts and commitment in co-ordinating their response to address the acts of lawlessness unfolding in our City and safeguarding the well-being of all our citizens.
City of Joburg and country are still in the midst of a deadly pandemic with the fast-spreading Delta variant putting unimaginable strain on the limited resources. All of us are called upon to do our part in contributing to the efforts of fighting the spread of Covid-19.
Speaker urges all residents to continue taking all the necessary measures as advised by the health practitioners to minimise the spread of Covid-19, protect themselves and avoid gatherings. The country remains at Alert Level 4 and compliance to the regulations is required.
