The Moral Regeneration Movement is a civil society-driven initiative that aims at working against moral decay and anti-social behaviour, which manifest itself in various ways and across all sectors of our communities in South Africa.
It is a collaborative public participation platform where civil society organisations, in partnership with government come together to mitigate and ultimately eradicate all forms of moral degeneration and build a caring nation in pursuit of creating lasting peace and prosperity in our country.
As a Moral Regeneration Movement, we are aware of the internal and external root causes pertaining to the Increasing levels of degeneration in our families and communities post 1994. To be more accurate we must ask ourselves why we speak of moral regeneration post- apartheid era and not before.
What gates of immorality and disobedience we have intentionally or unintentionally opened in our efforts to transform and build a new nation. What value system, moral standards and social norms we have eroded in our zeal to promote human rights without responsibilities. Who has been responsible for defining what freedom is and defining the destiny of our nation. What kind of leadership we have and what legacy are we developing through our action and in actions as leaders in government and in our communities. As a nation, we are effectively reaping what we have been sowing over the past 26 years of constitutional democracy.
Our New Age inspired value system has taught our generation that, “You do not have because you didn’t take it for yourself, and this is so wrong and linked to the distortion of an idea that” you can be anything you want to be, and you deserve your success and by implication, you deserve your failure.
The recent outbreak of riots, characterised by violence, the destruction of property and looting in particular in KZN and Gauteng provinces has left us with great sadness and shock in the system of governance system and the state of livelihood in our country. It has opened our eyes and confirmed our belief that something fundamentally wrong has happened in the transformation path we have chosen.
Whilst we fully understand the frustration and the anger caused by the severe impact of Covid 19 pandemic in the livelihood of people, the unintended consequences of restrictive government regulations and continuous lockdowns, which have effectively eroded the constitutional freedom and rights of people and the state collapsing state of governance which is characterised by corruption, constitutional dilemma and political paralysis within the governing party, the leadership of the MRM unreservedly condemns the use of any form of violence as solution by both government and the people.
We would prefer that government explore other constructive means of reconciling our communities with government, in addition to the private sector through use of existing community public participation platforms and structures. We believe that when the intelligence of the intelligent has run out of ideas, it is logical that leadership should create a conducive environment for the religious sector to play its role to pray for God’s divine intervention and become actively involved in ministering and communicating
to their congregates through their churches.
South Africa is at crossroads and in urgent need of God who is the moral source and authority over our lives. As moral regeneration movement, we call upon all MRM leaders and stakeholder organisations to talk to our communities and intervene by mobilising and educating our communities about morality and freedom, reading from our historic perspective and value system.
We therefore call upon people across our City of Joburg to condemn these acts of violence and the destruction of property, which is taking the country backwards and we will reap nothing out of this exercise. We urge all church leaders, community leaders, traditional leaders, politicians and civil society to assist in stopping this economic destruction. We also call upon government to act and respond with maximum caution during this time of national panic and uncertainty, caused by eminent economic collapse engineered by the forces of darkness whose aim is to bankrupt the world financial system and enslave the majority of the population.
In conclusion, this is the time to look for a BETTER WAY. This is time for community leaders and communities, including the Church to cooperate with our government and support its efforts to push back the forces of darkness and wickedness.
