Joburg hosts the Wreath Laying Ceremony to Commemorate the 1976 June 16

The Executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg, Cllr Mpho Phalatse, will take part in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Hector Pieterson Memorial Museum in Orlando West, Soweto, on Youth Day, Thursday 16 June 2022.

This year marks Forty-Six years since the uprising in which many children lost their lives while standing up against a system that sought to strip them of their identity and break their spirit.

The City of Johannesburg is among those that commemorate Youth Month annually. Working with other partners in the spirit of cooperative governance, the City of Johannesburg hosts the Wreath Laying Ceremony at the Hector Pieterson Memorial in Soweto. Members of the media are invited to wreath laying ceremony to be held as follows:
