The Member of the Mayoral Committee for Public Safety in City of Johannesburg, Councillor David Tembe, met the Chinese Consul-General in Johannesburg, Mr Tang Zhongdong, on Thursday, 02 June 2022.
The Chinese delegation requested a meeting with MMC Tembe to discuss issues of mutual benefit and safety in the City.
Joined by the Acting Head of Public Safety, Ms Vicky Manyathi and Acting JMPD Chief Mr Maxwell Khanyile, MMC Tembe had a cordial engagement with the Consul-General and explained that a “safe and secure city” is one of the mayoral priorities and that plans are in place to deal with all incidents of crime in the City.
The meeting is a continuation of a relationship and friendship that was started by his predecessor and current MMC for Environment and Infrastructure Services Department, Cllr Michael Sun.
“I am an advocate of continuing and improving on things that work hence I believe that this kind of relationship with the Chinese must continue so that we can explore all issues of mutual benefit and safety at the top of that agenda”, said MMC Tembe.
