The MMC for Health and Social development, Councillor Ashley Sauls I, was invited to a ribbon cutting for the Bethesda Cancer Care Home in Parktown on 29 March 2022.

The organisation was set up out of necessity for patients who are undergoing cancer treatment and are not well enough to endure travelling on their own.

The facility currently consists of five rooms, each sleeping two people with a dining area. Having previously been built as an upmarket bed and breakfast the facilities at the home are of a high quality and are in good condition. The home seeks to house patients at an affordable rate for up to six weeks to allow patients to undergo treatment while being in a safe, clean space without the need to cook and clean for themselves.

Headed by Executive Jocelyn Swartz, the organisation hopes to rapidly increase its housing complement to 10 rooms on the property and to further open more care facilities in and around Johannesburg. At this moment her biggest focus is to rehome as many less fortunate cancer patients as she can, with specific regard for those coming from Charlotte Maxeke Hospital.

The office of the MMC has undertaken to assist the Bethesda Cancer Care Home as far as possible and to support this wonderful cause. The organisation is accepting donations which can be paid to the below bank account, and which will be fully audited:
Account Type: Business
Account Number: 628 992 209 92
Branch Code: 257 705
Reference to be confirmed by Executive Director Jocelyn Swartz: 060 411 7217

We encourage and applaud all support shown to this organisation.
