Councillor Makhubele says, “This event is designated to celebrate Africa Month in the context of socio-economic emancipation, political co-operation as well as women empowerment and the central role they continue to play in the restoration and repositioning of our continent".

“In view of various acts of hostility and unrest amongst Africans, it is important for us as women to take the lead in bridging the gap of engagements towards healing and restoration within and amongst the nations", adds Cllr Makhubele.

She said that invitations to influential leaders from different walks of life and various countries in Africa have been sent to bring diversity to the discussions and enrich the possible solutions of bringing about healing and restoration. Notably, Mrs Sophie de Bruyn, Ms Olajumoke Adenowo and Dr Pearl Kupe are among the guest speakers.

About 100 delegates are expected to attend the event who will also be taken on several site visits within the City.

A range of topics of alignment will be discussed to ensure that the programme is impactful and achieves the objectives of the unification of Africa. Therefore, various topics of alignment will be discussed seeking to ensure that the programme is impactful and achieves the objectives of creating opportunities and platforms for women in the socio-economic sphere coupled to leading discussions and initiatives towards peace and prosperity in Africa.

“ I am hoping for robust honest discussion on restoration and repositioning of the African Continent, bridging the gap of unrest amongst Africans, bridging the gap of inequality, African politics and international relations and pragmatic solutions for Africans, empowering women through technology and energy as well as social media", says Cllr Makhubele.

Through the establishment of the Organisation of Africa Unity (OAU) in 1963, Africa became a pioneer in being the first continent to focus on continental unity encouraging nation-building through unity and freedom from oppression.

Africa Month also seeks to increase the appreciation and demand for arts and culture, goods and services and to stimulate competitive markets for trade among African countries.
