We will be starting a campaign to promote a healthy work environment for all City of Johannesburg employees. To achieve the Golden Repair of our city, we need to put our employees front and centre, and we are going to start by making sure that something as basic as a healthy work environment is in place so that people know that their health and safety come first. This in turn will ensure that quality services are delivered to all residents.

We all know that your environment is a vital component for motivation and morale in the workplace, and this is something that the City had sadly not taken seriously for years. Many of the buildings that house our employees fall far short of the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (Ohasa), and this has had a direct impact on productivity. Residents are also subject to unattractive and unhealthy environments when they visit City service centres.

This must change. Through our campaign we will visit all buildings where our employees are based and compile a full checklist of everything that needs to be addressed. Then we will work with the City Manager to ensure that funds are allocated, and repairs and maintenance happen in time and on budget.

Our goal is to support the mandate of the Multi Party Government led by Executive Mayor, Councillor Mpho Phalatse, to ensure that Johannesburg is a caring, and well-run City as we continue to uphold the Golden Repair and rebuild Johannesburg into a City that we can all be proud of.

The media are invited to join the launch and walkabout of the centre on Wednesday, 7 September 2022 from 11:20 a.m., followed by opportunities to interview the MMCs.

Address: Roodepoort Civic Centre, 100 Christiaan de Wet Road, Florida Park, Roodepoort.
