Mdlalose.jpgNkosinathi Mdlalose, a Supplier Officer in Group Finance within the Strategic Supply Chain Management Directorate, is an accomplished musician vying for a Best Maskandi gong at the 14th annual South African Traditional Music Achievement Awards (SATMA).

Zothile, as Nkosinathi is known within music circles, boasts two studio albums under his belt, with his latest offering released in February 2019.

The SATMAs promote and preserve traditional music.

A budding Maskandi musician, the 29-year-old joined the City on 1 December 2017. He is a versatile artist and loves playing the acoustic guitar, composing, producing and arranging new music. He is also a soulful vocalist.

Zothile developed his love for Maskandi and R&B while growing up in KwaGxobanyawo (kwaManxili), Thelezini (eMphezulu) and in Mondlo section B in KwaZulu-Natal.

It was after he had broken the strings of three guitars he had borrowed from friends in June 2010 that he decided to invest in his own instrument. The talented musician didn't take long to master the guitar and soon won the Best Talented Student Award at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Westville campus in September 2011.

This is the same university where he graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree in Supply Chain Management and Economics.

Zothile recorded and released his debut studio album, “Tonight", in December 2014 in which he collaborated with multiple Maskandi artists including Vuma Mazibuko on the bass guitar and Skhindi on concertina. W Gxowa arranged the music at Bazooka Studios.

He's been play-listed on two of South Africa's biggest indigenous language radio stations, Ukhozi FM and on Umhlobo Wenene, as well as a host of other local radio stations.

Zothile has in the past collaborated with Ntunja, a guitarist and singer for Mahotella Queens and Masotsha, a bass guitarist for Simphiwe Dana. He is a regular performer at various music concerts in Gauteng.

Besides music, Zothile is passionate about working with people. “I love it when the person I have assisted is happy with my service," he says.

“God is my inspiration. I am also inspired by reading self-motivational book."

To nominate Zothile, SMS his name and Best Newcomer Artist and Best Maskandi Album to 49495. Nominations close on Friday, 19 July.
