​Aspiring young golfers in the City of Johannesburg were given a unique opportunity on Wednesday, 15 April 2026, to learn from professional golfers as the Joburg Ladies Open hosted a golf coaching clinic.

The coaching clinic aimed at giving the children hands-on experience, with each child walking away having gained new skills and insight into the game.

Young golfer Phetoho Kgorane said the experience was “great" and highlighted learning new techniques, such as using her left leg pressure to create power. She said she loves golf because it brings out raw emotions. She added that she has been playing for two years, and she looks up to Rory McIlroy.

Tshepo Mokoena, who is the Coaching Manager from South African Golf Development Board, who accompanied children from Alexandra, Soweto and surrounding areas, said the coaching clinic was a powerful learning experience. “Some of the girls have never seen ladies' professional players, so it's an eye-opener and gives them a chance to learn from the best."

“I encouraged them to observe how calm and prepared players are in their game." He added that he is confident that every child would walk away inspired, more confident and equipped with lessons to improve their game.

Malethola Matube, founder of Iketsetse Bo Ka Moso Women Golf, also brought children to the coaching clinic. She said they were grateful to the City of Johannesburg and the organising committee for creating the opportunity for young golfers to experience what it means to be a golf professional.

“We introduce it as a recreational drive, but today they get to see professionals and take home the dream of one day doing the same," she said. Matube added that the experience extended beyond the course, noting how the children were inspired even on the journey there. “When we were on our way here, they were looking at the houses and aspiring for greater things and success. Being included in spaces they normally only see on television shows them that they can do amazing things."

The Joburg Ladies Open officially teed off on Thursday, 16 April 2026, and continues till Sunday, 19 April 2026. Entry is free and the tournament promises an exciting weekend of world-class golf and entertainment for golf enthusiasts and fans.
