​Joburg Market continues to reinforce its role as a leader in skills development by strengthening strategic partnerships with the Wholesale and Retail Sector Education and Training Authority (W&RSETA) and Regent Business School. Through these collaborations, the Market is creating opportunities that bridge the gap between academic learning and industry practice, equipping future retail professionals with the practical skills required to thrive in the workplace.

Joburg Market recently hosted a tour for postgraduate students enrolled in Regent Business School's Retail Management Development Programme (RMDP). The initiative reflects the shared commitment of the three entities to advancing experiential learning while fostering stronger collaboration between academia and industry.

The experience exposed students to the inner workings of Africa's largest fresh produce market, providing practical insight into retail operations, fresh produce procurement, logistics and customer relationship management. Students were able to contextualise classroom learning and gain a deeper appreciation of the operational complexities that underpin South Africa's retail and fresh produce sectors.

​Mohau Takadimane, Acting Skills Development Facilitator, reflected on his own journey as a graduate of the Retail Management Development Programme, highlighting the value of experiential learning in shaping professional careers.

“Standing before you today is a full-circle moment for me because I was once an RMDP student myself. The knowledge and exposure I gained through the programme played a significant role in shaping my career, and today I have the privilege of giving back by supporting the development of future professionals," said Takadimane.

Through collaborations with higher education institutions and industry partners, the Market continues to provide students with meaningful opportunities to translate theory into practice while contributing to the development of a skilled, future-ready workforce.
